I suspect this is the same issue as https://bugs.launchpad.net/pinta/+bug/1904304, which was a bug in Pinta 1.7. You could download the latest development build from https://github.com/PintaProject/Pinta/actions/runs/451269735 (requires a github login to download the installers from the "Artifacts" section)
So this bug is nine months old? When is the fix actually going to become a part of Pinta?
I'm looking for a Paint.NET alternative now that I'm on Linux, this bug is a serious dealbreaker, and I have no intention of downloading and compiling a solution just to get this software to work.
With how big of a bug this is, I'd have hoped getting the fix out in a user-friendly way would be a priority rather than something that can wait nine months without a distributed fix.
