It would probably even be better to not show "JPEG Quality" window at all. This option should be integrated in main Save window and option remembered.
I never understood why it is set as 85%? Any special reason? Why will anyone want to loose quality. I know size comes in picture, but still that is not a very regular situation
Saving file in JPG and selecting 100% loses some quality, that is basic principle of JPG. But I guess setting it to 85% is one of the best think to lose very small part of quality but benefit much on file size.
I'm working on this as part of my Google Summer of Code 2012 project.
Andrew, do you have any idea how you will implement this. My humble suggestion is, don't make it too difficult to use. If possible it would be nice if somehow integrated into existing Save dialog. So non-geek end-users would not need to deal with it.
No, I have not yet taken a detailed look into how I will implement it - all I know of now is that I am able to. :)
I will need to implement it in a way that my mentor approves of, but I'm sure that as long as I propose a simple and doable solution he will let me do it. I'll look into adding the JPG quality into the save dialog, although currently I would think that it would make more sense to show this dialog immediately after they click "Save" and they're saving it with the JPG format.
Either way, the quality setting should be saved for future use, including after Pinta is restarted. This will probably be implemented in the middle of summer some time.

Is quite a pain to be dealing with that option EVERY time the file is saved.
