At least for rectangular selections, but fine for all kinds of selections: This should be a call also a multiselect... when some selection is already made, when holding, say, Ctrl and making another selection, the previous one is not discarded but now should be selected both regions - union of them. This should work for both overlapping and not-overlapping regions. Similarly, when holding, say, Shift+Ctrl, previous selection should be partially bitten - substracted... This features are well known from gimp and other tools

Pinta 1.6 was released March 1, 2015 and this feature is now implemented for Rectangle Select, Ellipse Select and Lasso Select. Magic Wand Select multiselect was already implemented in previous version. Pinta 1.6 can be downloaded from: http://pinta-project.com/releases

This already exists for the Magic Wand tool, and will be implemented for all of the other selection tools as part of this year's Google Summer of Code.
